Public vs Private Instagram Accounts: What to Check Before You Order

Why your Instagram account and content need to be public for an order, how to check your privacy settings, and what else to review before you order.

Before you place an order for followers, likes, views or comments, there is one setting that matters more than any other: whether your Instagram account is public or private. This guide explains the difference, why it affects your order, and a short checklist of other things to review so your order can be processed without delays.

The difference between public and private accounts

Instagram gives every account a privacy setting:

  • Public account. Anyone can see your profile, posts and reels, whether or not they follow you. Your content can also appear in places like search and hashtags.
  • Private account. Only people you approve as followers can see your posts and reels. Anyone else sees your profile name and photo, but not your content.

Both are perfectly valid choices. Many people keep personal accounts private and switch to public when they want to share more widely, such as when growing a creator or small business profile.

It is worth knowing that some account types work a little differently. Creator and business accounts are generally public, because their purpose is to reach people beyond an approved list. If you recently switched from a business or creator account back to a personal one, double-check your privacy setting, since it may have changed during the switch.

Going public also means thinking about what is on your profile. Before you switch, take a quick look through your older posts, tagged photos and highlights, and archive anything you would rather keep to a smaller circle.

Why your account needs to be public for an order

FollowersFan never asks for your Instagram password and never logs into your account. Instead, orders are processed using only your public username or the public link to a post or reel.

That means the profile or content you are ordering for has to be visible to everyone. If an account is private:

  • A follower order may not be able to proceed, because new follow requests need your approval.
  • A likes, views or comments order cannot reach a post that only approved followers can see.

In short, a private account can cause an order to stall or only partly complete. Keeping your account public until your order shows as completed avoids this.

How to check your privacy setting

Instagram moves its settings around from time to time, so the exact path may look different on your device. In general:

  1. Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
  2. Open the menu (often three lines or three dots) to reach your settings.
  3. Look for a section related to account privacy or privacy.
  4. Check whether the private account option is turned on or off.

If you are not sure what a stranger sees, here is a simple test: open your profile link in a private or incognito browser window where you are not logged in. If you can see your posts, your account is public.

Other settings worth checking

Account privacy is the main thing, but a few other settings can also affect an order:

  • Post visibility. Archived posts, posts shared only with a close friends list, or content limited in some other way may not be publicly reachable.
  • Age or region restrictions. Some business and creator accounts restrict who can see their content. Restrictions can block visibility for some viewers.
  • Comment settings. If you are ordering comments, make sure comments are turned on for that post and are not limited to a small group.
  • Like and view counts. Hiding like or view counts on a post changes what others can see, but you can still see your own counts.

What to avoid while your order is in progress

Once your order is placed, a few changes can interrupt it:

  • Switching back to private before the order is completed
  • Changing your username, which can break the link between your order and your profile
  • Deleting, archiving or editing the visibility of the post you ordered for
  • Turning off comments on a post that has an active comment order

If you need to make one of these changes, wait until your tracking page shows that the order is completed. You can always check the latest status on the Find my order page.

What happens if an order cannot be completed

If something prevents part of an order from being delivered, such as an account becoming private partway through, the order may show as Partially completed. In that case, the unfulfilled portion is refunded to your original payment method. You can read the details in our refund policy.

If you notice a problem, the quickest fix is usually to switch the account back to public and then contact us at support@followersfan.com with your order number so we can take a look.

A quick pre-order checklist

Before you check out, run through this list:

  1. Your account is set to public.
  2. The post or reel you are ordering for is visible when you are logged out.
  3. You have the correct username or full post link copied.
  4. Comments are turned on, if you are ordering comments.
  5. You do not plan to change your username or delete the post soon.
  6. You have entered an email address you check regularly.

With these checks done, you are ready to choose a service such as Instagram followers and place your order with confidence.

Can I switch my account back to private after my order?

Yes. Once your tracking page shows the order as completed, you can change your privacy settings however you like. Switching back to private before then can interrupt delivery.

Do I need to give FollowersFan access to my account?

No. We never ask for your Instagram password or login. We only use your public username or a public post or reel link.

What if my account was private when I ordered?

Switch it to public as soon as you can, then email support@followersfan.com with your order number. If part of the order cannot be delivered, that portion is refunded to your original payment method.
